SpaceX _nearly_ nails a rocket landing

There was another attempt at landing a Falcon 9 first stage on a barge today that was nearly completely successful:

Unfortunately it hit the barge just a little hard causing a rapid unplanned disassembly. But so close! You must watch the video if you haven’t seen it, it’s beyond awesome:

Next try June – I can’t wait!

India launches GSLV MkIII

This isn’t really a rocket blog, but… this is pretty cool. I’ve been hanging out for the SpaceX CRS-5 launch in a couple days when they will try to land the first stage on an ocean-going barge – I kid you not – but it’s been postponed to next month. In the meantime – India have successfully launched their biggest rocket with a prototype capsule – way to go India!

I love that gantry – it looks so Hindu-god-like.

Wow.
Orion
Spectacular launch of Nasa’s new Orion spaceship atop a Delta 4 heavy rocket today. I can’t wait to see it go up on top of the SLS rocket with some astronauts aboard!
